Halloweensie Entry 2020
Here is my entry for Susannah Hill's Halloweensie contest. The rules this year were to write a story under 100 words inluding the words skeleton, mask and creep.
I always love reading the entries and connecting with the wonderful writing community.
Halloween In The Woods
By Margaret Aitken
The moon was round, the fog was thick like cloudy soup.
"It's time," said Bear.
Squirrel gathered treats for tricksters.
Racoon strung garlands of skeleton leaves.
Mouse made masks—the spookiest, kookiest kind.
And then ...
they crept from tree to tree.
With an "OOooOOoo"
and a "BooOOooo"
and an "EeeEEeeee"
"Hee hee hee!"
Then shadow stories,
and songs around the fire.
And from the woody dark the eyes of forest spirits ...
Until the night was put to bed,
by the rising November sun.
